The pancreas is dying! 12 strange signs of pancreatic cancer

Symptom 1: Jaundice

A possible early sign of pancreatic cancer is yellowing of the skin and eyes, medically known as jaundice. This jaundice occurs when bilirubin, a yellow bile pigment, accumulates in the blood. Normally, the liver filters bilirubin, which passes through the bile duct into the intestine and is excreted with the stool. However, when pancreatic tumors develop, they often block the bile ducts, preventing bilirubin from reaching the intestine. Bilirubin then accumulates in the blood, appearing under the skin and eyes, giving them a yellowish tint. The more advanced the obstruction, the darker and more widespread the yellowing becomes.

Symptom 2: Rapid and unexpected weight loss

Rapid and unexplained weight loss can also be a sign of pancreatic cancer. As pancreatic tumors grow, they absorb calories and nutrients from healthy tissue, burning more calories in the process. Tumors also impair the secretion of digestive enzymes needed for proper nutrient absorption, thus accelerating weight loss. While minor weight fluctuations are normal for most people, significant and rapid weight loss warrants a medical evaluation.

Symptom 3: Loss of appetite

Loss of appetite or a feeling of fullness after eating small amounts of food, known as early satiety, can also be an indicator of pancreatic cancer. As they grow, pancreatic tumors can compress surrounding organs such as the stomach and intestines and disrupt nerve and hormonal signals that regulate appetite. Furthermore, cancer cells release chemicals that further suppress hunger. All of these mechanisms significantly reduce the desire to eat and contribute to weight loss.

Symptom 4: Loose stools
