Maraschino Cherry Shortbread Christmas Cookies

Always the first to disappear from the holiday cookie tray! These buttery, tender shortbread cookies are studded with sweet, jewel-like maraschino cherries and topped with a pretty pink drizzle. They’re as festive to look at as they are irresistible to eat.

🍒 Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp almond extract (optional but delicious!)

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup finely chopped maraschino cherries, patted very dry

  • 2-3 tbsp maraschino cherry juice (from the jar)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp maraschino cherry juice

  • ½ tsp vanilla or almond extract

  • Optional: sprinkles or extra finely chopped cherries for topping
