5 Simple Exercises to Improve Blood Flow and Reduce Your Risk of Stroke
Maintaining healthy blood circulation is crucial for brain function, especially as we age. Poor circulation can cause blood clots to form, increasing the risk of ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke. Fortunately, regular physical activity can significantly reduce this risk. Here are five basic exercises that improve blood flow and overall cardiovascular health.
1. Walking (30 minutes a day)

Walking is a simple and effective way to improve circulation. A brisk walk increases your heart rate, improves blood flow, and lowers blood pressure. It's a low-impact workout that can be done anywhere and is especially beneficial for older adults and those with joint problems. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week.
2. Leg lifts and ankle rotations

If you spend a lot of time sitting, whether at a desk or on a long vacation, these exercises are essential. Simply raise your legs one at a time, either sitting or lying down, and hold each lift for a few seconds. Continue rotating your ankles in both directions. These movements improve circulation in the lower extremities and help prevent blood clots from forming in the legs, which can sometimes travel to the brain.
