If you touch someone's Adam's apple, you might notice a recoil. This area, actually the thyroid cartilage, is very sensitive because it protects the larynx and vocal cords. Any pressure applied can cause discomfort or even pain. Out of respect, it's best to avoid touching someone else's Adam's apple.
