First line:
Multiply the first two numbers:
5×8=40, then add the first number:
40+5=45.
For an alternative (but complex) approach, add a multiple of 2 to each total sum:
Add 5 + 2 (or 7) to 5 to get 12.
Add 5 + 4 (or 9) to 12 to get 21.
Ignoring one line makes this method difficult, but it could explain the 45 for the last equation.
